MINUTES

  1. Call to Order & reading of the Land acknowledgement- The meeting was called to order at: 1:06 pm;
  2. Roll Call- Nataly Hernandez, Salvador Ochoa, Victoria Lopez, Haley Azevado, Clayton Trent, Vanessa Sanchez, Salvador Garcia Vigil, Brittany Glor, Anisya Lustig-Ellison, Erik Dickson, Melissa Nelson, Dirk Tolson and India Garcia are present.
  3. Public Comment – pursuant to California Education Code 89306, the AS Senate provides this time for any member of the public to address the AS Senate on any item affecting higher education. Pursuant to California Education Code 89306(b), each speaker will be allowed no more than three (3) minutes to address the AS Senate.
  4. Liaison Report to the Senate (Discussion)
    • ​Academic Senate Designee- no report;​
    • University President’s Designee- finished enrollment period; goal for returning is 95%, current is 85% returning for next semester, sending text and calls to pop up the number; Transfer Advising Next Friday, Seawolf Decision Day, 130 students enrolled, 100 more enrolled after, and over about 1500 students have put their deposit in; Beginning next week of Celebration Week;

  7. Business
    • ​23/24 Budget (ACTION)​
      • Discussion- VPF Trent is discussing over the Budget Book, asking if anyone has questions or suggestions before the request having to be sent
      • Action_ VPF moved to approve the 23/24 Budget; Senator Sanchez seconded the motion to approve the AS 23/24 Budget; The motion was passed unanimously;
    • Juneteenth Holiday (ACTION)
      • Discussion- President Hernandez is discussing about how the CSU and SSU is make Juneteenth as a Paid Holiday, so AS also wanted to make it a paid Holiday;
      • Action- Senator Sanchez moved to make Juneteenth a paid Holiday; Senator Tolson seconded the motion; The motion passes unanimously;
    • 48/52 Work Policy (ACTION)
      • Discussion- President Hernandez is discussing about the 48/52 policy; going over any questions about the policy; discussed about seniority level of system;
      • Action- Senator Trent moved to approve the 48/52 work policy; Senator Ochoa seconded the motion; The motion passed unanimously;
    • Augmenting diversity programs and events on campus (ACTION)

      • Discussion- Senator Ochoa discussed about the resolution, discussing about increasing the sense of belonging along with students; He is seeing any questions or asking suggestions; disHowever there are a coupleConcerns: accountability; Suggestions: making a Committee; The forum is meant as another place for students to voice their opinions, if they do miss an opportunity to do so; a lot of variables to be aware of as well such as timing, the day, etc; concern is also university being involved in the process, could be an issue if university being involved, maybe co- sponsor with the HUB; Reasoning of why the University being involved because students feel like there can be a change but also an opportunity; Dickson suggested possibility of changing into a corporate resolution;

      • Action- Senator Sanchez moved to amend to change the government resolution to corporate resolution; Senator Tolson seconded the motion; Motion passed unanimously; Senator Ochoa motion to amend say therefore ; Senator Sanchez seconded the motion; Senator Ochoa moved to approve augmenting diversity programs and events on campus as amended; Senator Sanchez seconded the motion; Motion passed unanimously;

    • V.I.B.E.S. Expansion (DISCUSSION)

      • Discussion- Senator Sanchez discussed about REACH via VIBES; VIBES is in Sauv but it is the most expensive village and not accessible and suggested to expand VIBES more than Sauv

  8. Items for the Good of the Order- AS for Funzies canceled today; Seawolf Decision Day was a great turnout; next Saturday, Telethon; MECHA dance and buy tickets; LOBOCON tomorrow?

  9. Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at: 2:45 pm.
