Agenda & Minutes
I. Call to Order & reading of the Land acknowledgement- The meeting was called to order at: 1:00 pm
II. Roll Call- Mariah Atkins, Erik Dickson, Gerald Jones, Taylor Rozek, Brenda Hernandez, Celine Rubalcava, Melissa, Victoria Lopez, Yasmin Esquivel, India Garcia, Nataly Hernandez, Salvador Ochoa Zavalza were present.
III. Public Comment – pursuant to California Education Code 89306, the AS Senate provides this time for any member of the public to address the AS Senate on any item affecting higher education. Pursuant to California Education Code 89306(b), each speaker will be allowed no more than three (3) minutes to address the AS Senate.
IV. Liaison Report to the Senate (Discussion)
- Academic Senate Designee- no report;
- University President’s Designee- Dr. Jones discussed:
- severance package eligible for people working over 5 years and accept the package in order to save money for the University to even out the deficit; expecting 60 people to take the package;
- Email of the survey has been out and the survey is ending at 11/11;
- They are also working with different groups to send an apology letter of the dead names of some of the students and damage control on that issue;
- Seawolf Scholars Program: $288,000 allocated; next Week is Veterans Day Celebration and University Celebration, events coming up soon; change of the policy of academic probation to academic notice(CSU systemwide) for next week;
V. Reports (Discussion)
- AS President- President Esquivel discussed: CSA this weekend, Personnel Committee in discussion of pay increase
- Executive Vice President- Executive Vice President Hernandez discussed: a concern from students of the cafeteria food and sanitary issues such how long has been in out there, etc; Senator of Diversity and Govt Affairs applications open, RSVP Pronouns Committee, issue of the Pandemic and students being on campus and online;
- Vice President of Finance- VP of Finance reported:
- Going over the numbers of the Master Revenue Book 2022-2023 consisted of the fees, revenue, budgets and many more categories; Campus Retention from Spring to Fall was early 70%
- Quarterly Report going over the hourly employee report of the hours, the wage they are being paid, the grand total and budget in the whole AS department;
- Children’s School Budget Financial System, expenses, revenue, Business Units, including grants, activities, 3 type of fees and many more categories from the 1st Quarter: July-September;
- 5 Year Plan in Place, no more reserves;
- Senator of Diversity - Senator Rubalcava reported that: email of the pronoun discussion, thinking of a presentation; meeting with Dr. Griffin on Next Thursday; asked to be sitting on the Search Committee of the Academic Dean;
- Senator of Student Resources- Senator Ochoa reported that: invited to Stevenson Hall Celebration on Dec 2nd, rescheduled meeting for GMC; AR started the search and decided on interviews for the applicants for the positions that are currently open;
- JUMP Representative- programs going smoothly; H&H week next week; 14-18th: hunger and homelessness awareness the following week; panel discussion and movie night screening; Canned Food Drive, Local Pantry;
- Basic Needs Representative
- CalFresh Outreach this week; updated website and pre screening information; successful CalFresh week, with help of AS; OCt 31- Nov 3rd: 40 prescreening, 18 applications submitted and fulfilled the 10 county appointments; exemption letters sent out this week and next week;
- Lobo's Pantry Highlights: 16 Volunteers; REFB will be delivering every first & third Thursday of the month; Farm to pantry 10/21/22 - Apples; RWFB delivered 11/3/22 - Canned Corn, Lots of Amy's frozen food, chili beans; Pantry use- Total number of visits 1,831; Total Food Items 4,085; Total hygiene items 780; Upcoming events - Lobo's Pop Up Pantry on November 15th for H&H Week; Challenges- Multiple users: same students coming in frequently to pantry multiple times a week.
- ASP Representative- 3 events: Boards and Brew, Baila Con Lobo, Bowling Night yesterday(175 people), Dodgeball Tournament canceled due to ASP Reps not feeling well; as of right now, 22 events are planned for the next semester and ongoing as well;
- Boards & Brews: 40 Students
- Biala con Lobo: 52 Students
- Bowling Night: 180 Students
- Children's School Representative- Representative Nelson reported: registration is coming, so we are looking at next year’s enrollment; 2 incoming for January, getting the word out for the program so students partaking in the program; CSU push systemwide for 12 months- 2 year olds, future of potentially opening up to the community as well; QRS grant exhausted the funds, but more funds are coming on the way; staffing and milestone program;
- Executive Director- Director Dickson reported that:
- Capacity of cost and program and service and necessary discussion for the next
semester and the future - Faculty and student reduction; hiring of new staff
- Busy time for all the programs, but all programs are doing really well; students can
volunteer In JUMP for work study; Clubs deposits and checks are coming; - Issue in AS: Health; currently 10 employees are sick, so if you are not feeling well,
stay at home; so everyone need to work together and remind use the sick time and
get rest; - Personnel Committee discussing of flexibility of the programs as the pandemic is
still going on, conversation with Prostaff and Personnel; - Student Government Coordinator Search is starting, but limited; looking at Prostaff
Plan; abbreviated search and interview with the candidate; - AS Intern Search is still continuing as well;

VI. Business
- AS-CR 010.22.23 Events that count towards Outreach hour requirements for Senators(Action)
- Discussion- President Esquivel discussed: about the events for Outreach Hours and what will be counted as Outreach Hours; Executive Vice President also feels that it should not be limited to the Senators, but also the Board; We need an approved list of Outreach Hours;
- Suggestion form- online and physical form
- Tabling- Big events, 12-2pm, suggestion box, quiz for prize/free food, having all board members table together
- Social Media- TikTok
- Outreach process/rules policy- big tabling with everyone(2x beginning and end of month), incentives to who has most outreach hours, 6 outreach hours/month, AS gear and nametags, add max and min;
- Action- Executive VP Hernandez moved to motion events that count towards Outreach hours requirements for Senators; VP Of Finance Rozek seconded the motion; Motion passed unanimously
- Discussion- President Esquivel discussed: about the events for Outreach Hours and what will be counted as Outreach Hours; Executive Vice President also feels that it should not be limited to the Senators, but also the Board; We need an approved list of Outreach Hours;
- AS-CR 011.22.23 Appoint Clayton Trent as the 2022/23 AS Vice President of Finance effective Dec. 17, 2022 (Action)
- Discussion- Executive VP Hernandez discussed talking about the candidates who applied for the VP of Finance position and having experience with AS and finance, very knowledgeable about the position and the AR Committee recommended Clayton Trent.
- Action- Senator Rubalcava moved to motion to appoint Clayton Trent as the 2022- 2023 As Vice President of Finance; Senator Ochoa seconded the motion;
VII. Items for the Good of the Order- Registration Appointments sent out by email, have students to meet with their Advisor to be prepared and picking out the classes; Women’s Volleyball tonight;
VIII. Adjournment- The meeting was adjourned at: 2:16 pm
